Here’s an honest summary of video productions companies in terms of pricing.
Promotional Video Production is a varied beast. It can be cheap, it can be expensive, so here’s an overview of what to expect in terms of levels of service and prices. The demo costs given below are using an example video, lets say a 2 minute overview of your business and its services.
Consider this: To buy a camera prices start at about £200, and go all the way up to £40,000. This is oddly an exact model of video production industry, with some ‘providers’ starting at £200/video, and capital city providers going up to £40,000 for DVD promos, television advertising etc. It’s pretty intangible, but the difference between these providers in terms of delivering a video is only one thing: QUALITY.
1. Self-produced. Cost £0-20.
We’ve all got a video camera in some form, so we can make the video ourselves, right?
Of course, you can do whatever you want! Just make sure you use a tripod and don’t try to put any sound over it! (trust us)
2. Freelance Cameraman. Cost £500-1000.
Freelancers are experienced and cheery, and there are plenty of them about. They deliver well on price, and may give you a reasonable service. The problem is there is no guarantee of quality, and with so many outdated cameras and inefficient techniques and equipment out there, as well as no certainty that they can deliver to a professional standard, it can be risky to use them and you might be disappointed with the final video. It might not be polished, and it may look ugly. Be sure to check the cameraman’s showreel first and look carefully at the details of the video for things which could look better.
3. Local Video Production Company. Cost £2,000 to £4,000.

For those who want more a guarantee of quality, a local video production or design company is an option. Often however they have no video production unit in-house, and they outsource the work to the very same freelancers in option 2, while you pay the extra for the guarantee that the video will be to a professional standard. The video will look good, but will not look like the films you see in the cinema or the television adverts for the big brands, it will look more like when you see an ad for carpets (or something). Not bad, but not the best.
4. Capital City Production Company. Cost £10,000 to £30,000.

Wow, big price jump, right? That’s because you’ll be buying the services of much larger crews, London overheads, models, presenters, and the rest. This is the best in terms of quality, but obviously requires a massive budget, which many businesses can’t afford or risk.
That’s really the only kinds of categories that exist and the prices between all of these will vary from company to company, but we might as well draw your attention now to our Online Video Production Services at Platinum Media for (in our humble opinion) the best option.
